Pan-industry Construction Summit to run alongside Buildnz | Designex 2017.
buildnz | designex has run successfully for more than 30 years, showcasing at the last event more than 270 suppliers of design, build, construction technologies and solutions to 5467 combined builders, registered architects, planners, developers and designer visitors in attendance.* The three-day event has celebrated true innovation in construction with dedicated features across prefabricated design, and even container housing at the prior show.
buildnz | designex has grown exponentially over the past decade buoyed in no small part from the rebuild of Christchurch, an extended period of growth in the commercial build sector and the very significant housing supply issues continuing to face Auckland. That growth is set to continue with more than $35 billion in annual national construction spend forecasted to 2018.**
The Auckland supply issue, regulatory change, skilled labour shortages and the need for more professional collaboration amongst the sector are just a few of the issues the industry has been talking about for well over a decade at buildnz | designex. XPO, owners and organisers of buildnz | designex have been holding a growing number of industry seminars catering for aspects of these challenges; in part to help deliver CPD and LBP points to industry professionals as part of their ongoing professional development needs. “We’re confident the timing is right however to offer an additional ‘next level’ forum.” Says Brent Spillane Managing Director of XPO. “A summit that draws the most important decision makers in local and central Government, leading trade associations and powerful industry stakeholders. A summit that draws positive debate and ultimately delivers actions in the form of industry ‘White Papers’ – a considered mandate to steer the industry through the challenges that lie ahead.”

The XPO / Conferenz team is already in talks with one leading industry association; dialogue they trust will help cluster that all-important pan-industry support for the forum. “There are many industry groups we will need to cater for in this summit. We will be sharing a lot more about the content and nature of the forum in the weeks ahead” says Steve Scott, Managing Director of Conferenz. “Rest assured there have been some very positive high-level discussions that we trust will see a steering committee formed - so that the industry’s needs are catered for.”
In the meantime, it’s full steam ahead with exhibitor interest and booking already very strong for the 2017 wider buildnz | designex show. “We’re keen to break records with the size of the show,” says Spillane, “whether that’s the size of trade attendance, the number of suppliers and/or the size of pan-industry engagement at the summit – watch this space!”

Conferenz is privately owned by Steve Scott. Steve started the company in 1996 with himself and two others. Conferenz creates 60 events annually and are based in Albany, Auckland employing 50 staff.
XPO Exhibitions Ltd (XPO) owns and organises a portfolio of 13 of New Zealand’s largest and longest-running ‘business-to-business’ trade show exhibitions and events.
XPO purchased the majority of its trade shows from the subsidiary of the Daily Mail Group UK, DMG Worldwide Media NZ Ltd in January 2010.
